Happy 18th Birthday !

Happy 18th Birthday Eli !

Today is the 18th birthday of my youngest niece. I've been working on an album for her for the last few weeks and as it's now finished and been handed over I thought I would share it from start to end. I've not explained every page as that would take weeks, but there's still a few photos so I hope you're sitting comfortably !

Background was made using the resist technique and lots of Tattered Rose DI. The letters are made using the Tim Holtz Word Play die and Distress embossing powder.

I used lots of My Minds Eye paper for this page and scalloped Nestabilities.

Papers, tearing and sewing with some stamping and the Tim Holtz Doily die were the main ingredients on this page.

I couldn't resist doing some Spritz and Flick on this page !

Lots of DI and masks were used for the background. The doily is a paper one bought in the supermarket.

Lots of DI again used with Aspects of Design stamps, Tim Holtz Word Play die and the Cuttlebug Olivia die.

I masked off the bacgkound and then sprayed around the edges for this one. I also dug out my Martha Stewart around the page punches, not used those in ages !

Some more punching around the page coupled with some stamping, eyelets and tickets !

Grunge Board letters, DI and masks with a rosette to finish !

I used watercolour paper and acrylic paint for the background as well as some watercolour stamping too!

And finally punches, canvas hearts and crinoline butterflies and flowers for this page.

I have to say this has been some a pleasure to do and I'm already thinking of my next album ! If you've not been introduce to the Scrap 365 magazine then I would highly recommend it. I have found so much inspiration for this project in every issue.

Big Birthday Card !

It's time for the next challenge over at The Fashionable Stamping challenge and this one is an easy one for everyone as it's anything goes !

The card I've made is an 8 inch x 8 inch which is for my sister to give to her youngest daughter. I've used Pan Pastels to set the colour scheme for this card, I wanted the colours to be more pastel shades. I used loads of different stamps form Artistic Outpost, Tim Holtz, Katekelkraft, PaperArtsy, Indigo Blu, Darkroom Door and Oxford Impressions.

The wooden dress form has had a little white acrylic paint swiped over it and the corset is stamped onto sticky back canvas that's been mounted onto Grunge Paper. The paper doily has had Pan Pastels blended over it and then I just tipped the very edge with some Tea Dye DI. I've rubbed a little Pan Pastels over the lace too so it wasn't too white !

The numbers have been cut from sticky back canvas that I've again stuck to Grunge Paper using the Tim Holtz Word Play die. I used Broken Glass DI and a little Tea Dye DI around the edge. The bird cage die is a Poppystamps die and I've used more Pan Pastels on it. The main image is one that I love and is by Oxford Impressions. It's been stamped and cut out using Nestabilities and then I've blended a little DI around the edge.

We're in the middle of decorating at the moment, hence I'm a little later than usual posting this card. I suppost I'd better get back to it !

Hope you get chance to join us for this challenge.

New Home Celebration !

It's time for the next challenge over at The Stamp Man. Jill (the boss!) is hosting this challenge and it's a nice easy one, Anything goes Celebrations ! Remember for the winner there is the usual £10 voucher to spend in the online shop.

One of my sisters is due to move house next week so I've made this tag which will accompany the gift I'm going to buy (need to think what that will be !) I've used the Darkroom Door Home Sweet Home stamp set and the Tim Holtz Fabulous Flourishes. I started by stamping the flourish across the bottom edge of the jumbo tag with Multi Matt Medium. I dried it off then blended a combination of Barn Door, Dried Marigold, Fired Brick, Ripe Persimmon and Spiced Marmalade DI over it. The glue resists the ink beautifully ! I then did a little spritz and flick and dried it off again. The pieces of torn paper are from an old book. I did some second generation stamping onto card I blended DI over then stamped the large house on top of that before cutting it out.

The numbers are cut using the fabulous Tim Holtz Word Play die, I've blended Ripe Persimmon DI over them and then coated them with Glossy Accents. The flower is cut using the Tattered Flowers die from Crinoline and they've been dyed with Distress Stains.

This is a quick post today as time has really not been on my side ! Hope you get chance to join us for this challenge !

Artist inspiration !

We've zoomed through another 2 weeks which means it's time for the next challenge over at Frilly & Funkie. This time the very talented Anita Houston is our hostess and has challenged us to take our inspiration from one of four famous artists !

This is what Anita has to say:

Let's pay homage to any of the four big Renaissance Men (or Ninja Turtles...lol) who have inspired us all at one time or another - Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello,  Raphael. Show a project depicting any one or more of their works, tell which it is, and who created it.

This certainly did get me thinking, but that's what a challenge is all about !

I decided to take my inspiration from DaVinci and his Mona Lisa. I bought a gorgeous set of Vintage stamps from PaperArtsy and this image just leapt to mind ! I stamped the image with black Archival ink and then masked it off. Then I used a piece of torn paper to sponge DI over the image to create the background. I then stamped the flower image while the mask was still in place. I used Tattered Rose and Antique Linen Distress Markers to paint the face and the hand of the image. I created the frame using a Nestability and thick cardboard. I painted it with acrylic paint and used PaperArtsy Crackle Glaze. It didn't crackle as much as I'd hoped, but I was still happy with the finished result. I used the page from an old book to mount the main image onto.

The background was made using the blocking technique with Peacock Feathers (my new favourite colour!), Gathered Twigs and Shabby Shutters DI. I then stamped using Peacock Feathers DI with the Tim Holtz stamp from the Papillon set. The flower is made using the Tattered Flowers DI and I've cut it from Crinoline which I've dyed using Antique Linen and Scattered Straw Distress Stains.

I'm entering this card into the Simon Says Stamp and Show challenge - Hey Girl and also Simon Says Stamp - Anything Goes.

I hope you get chance to join us for this challenge and look forward to seeing which artist inspires you!

Jumbo Music Tag !

For my Katzelkraft DT project I decided to have fun with a jumbo tag and lots of Distress Inks!

I started by blending lots of different Distress Inks over the background. I then stamped using the Musique stamp set (which you cant actually see alot of !) I also used the Allegro EF to emboss the top right hand corner of the tag. Then I used the Spritz and Flick technique from Tim Holtz's Compendium of Curiosities. To create the word I used the Alphabet Corrupt stamps and used some Tissue Wrap a a layer beneath. I cut two tabs using the File Tabs die and stamped the words Jazz and Rock onto them. I created the circular frames using Nestabilities.

The two hearts are cut from metal with a Sizzix die and I've then embossed them with a Stampin' up EF. I used aclohol inks to colour the metal. The large flower is from some ribbon I bought from the Funkie Junkie Boutique and I've dyed it using Victorian Velvet Distress Stains. To finish off I spritzed the whole thing with Biscotti Perfect Pearls mist.

I'm also entering this tag into Studio L3 challenge which is to use the Spritz and Flick technique which you will find in Tim Holtz's Compendium of Curiosities on p42. The challenge is sponsored by Simon Says Stamp with a fab prize of $25 ! I'm entering the Simon Says Stamp and Show challenge too, which is No Rules !

Inky layout !

It's time for the next challenge over at The Fashionable Stamping Challenge and this time we would like you to get inky ! Make sure you hop over to the main blog to check out the rest of the DT's fab work !

I'm still working hard on the album for my niece, 2 weeks and counting so I need to put some hours in this week ! The photo on this layout has made me smile every time I looked at it. My niece hated sports day and the expression on her face just says it all !

I started by blending Ripe Persimmon and Salty Ocean DI over the background and then I've used a mask and blended more ink over it. Then I used a circle punch and punched a  hole in a piece of paper and used it as a mask and stamped the Wendy Vecchie text stamp over the mask. I then used a black pen to draw rough circles around the text. The doily is a paper doily that I bought from the supermarket and I've  blended DI over it.

I blended move DI over some Speciality Stamping Paper and then used a free stamp from a Craft Stamper magazine to stamp the flowers and then cut them out. The large letters are cut using my new favourite die, the Tim Holtz Wordplay die. I blended DI over the letters and then stamped over them using a Katzelkraft stamp.

I hope you get chance to join us for this challenge.

I'm also entering this layout into the Simon Says Stamp and Show challenge which is layers.

Bubbles and Summer colours !

It's time for the next challenge over at The Stamp Man. This time it's the lovely Siobhan's turn to host the challenge and she's chosen anything goes with Summer colours ! Remember there is also the £10 voucher up for grabs for the winner to spend in the online shop.

I'm still working on the album for my niece's 18th Birthday, so I'm using every opportunity to do another page ! I started by blending Mowed Lawn, and Mustard Seed DI over some white card. I then stamped the circles from the Aspects of Design Alluring Ladies stamp set. The bunting is made using a free stamp from a Craft Stamper magazine. I've hand drawn the Summer tag and also around the edge of the sheet. The word 'bubbles' is made using a Cuttlebug alphabet die and coloured using Ripe Persimmon DI.

I stamped lots of circles onto white card blended DI over it and then punched circles with different size circle punches. I then added some Glossy Accents to some of the circles. The work 'play' is made using the Tim Holtz Wordplay die (have I mentioned I love this die!). I stamped the circles from the Aspect of Design stamp set, blended DI over the letters and added some more Glossy Accents to some of the circles.

I'm entering this layout into the following challenges:

Well I'm really hoping to see the sun over the week end, but I'm not holding my breath !

I hope you get chance to join us for this challenge.

Altered metals at Frilly & Funkie !

The challenge this time over at Frilly & Funkie is one of my favourites and that is altered metals ! The very talented Linda is our host for the next 2 weeks and this is what Linda has to say:

I love using metals in my card making and mixed media.  For this challenge use metals, but you must alter them somehow.  You can use alcohol inks, acrylic paint, embossing powder or any other medium you choose.  You can even dabble in rusting the metals yourself.  Have some fun and let's see your altered metals!

I picked up one of these Triptych's at the local garden centre and decided it was perfect for Linda's challenge. I bought a gorgeous 10 Seconds Studio mould from Lin Brown's shop when it was closing down last year and I'd been itching to give it go. The dress form, flowers and zip are all from the same mould. I've used Alcohol Inks; Caramel, Stream and Wild Plum and then I've gone over the top with white acrylic paint to knock the colours back. The background stamping has all been done with Sepia Archival ink using Tim Holtz's Haberdashery set and Wendy Vecchi's Fashion Style & Art set. I've also used a mask on the centre panel and used Squeezed Lemonade DI.

I've stamped the TH needle book stamp onto some Crinoline and frayed the edges and layered it onto some Burlap. The little cotton reels (which I think are so cute!) have been wrapped with embroidery threads.

For the letter 'S' I've used the fantastic Tim Holtz Wordplay die (love this die!). The panel that I've mounted the letter onto is the centre from one of the frames on the TH Tag and Book Plate die. I scribbled into the metal of the oval panel then I've given both the letter and the panel the same treatment of alcohol ink and acrylic paint, but for the letter I've also used some black acrylic paint for some contrast.

The zip has been mounted onto the TH ruffled ribbon. Both of the side panels have been embossed using the Bubble Texture Fade and I've rubbed some Tea Dye DI over the top. All of the sewing embellishments are from Linda's Funkie Junkie Boutique.

I hope you get chance to join us for this challenge.

Happy 18th !

For my Katzelkraft DT project this time I've taken the opportunity to make another 18th birthday card for my niece. I saw a technique in the August Craft Stamper magazine that gave me the inspiration for this card.

The technique I saw was using Gesso and a plastic bag ! It gives such a wonderful texture and when it was dry I dabbed Fresco Finish paints over the top.

I used the Cage et Chandlier, Nature- Fleurs Grunge and Femmes 1900 stamp sets. I stamped the swirl over the Gesso layer using Coffee Archival ink. I stamped the flowers onto watercolour paper and then painted them using Distress Markers and Distress Ink re-inker. For the main image I sprayed some diluted re-inker onto my craft sheet and 'swooshed' some Speciality Stamping Paper through it. I dried it with my heat gun and then stamped the main image.

For the numbers I cut them from some thick card using the Tim Holtz Word Play die ( I love this die!). I stuck them to a piece of card and then covered them with metal. I refined around the numbers and then did a squiggly pattern  around them. I used acrylic paint to distress the metal and rubbed black Stazon ink across the top of the numbers. I dyed some seam binding using Distress Stains and spritzed it with water.

All of the stamps I've used are available exclusively from The Craft Barn in the UK or from Katzelkraft in France.

I hope you're all having a good week, despite the weather !

Going oriental !

It's time for the next challenge over at The Fashionable Stamping Challenge and this time we're going oriental ! Make sure you hop over to the main blog and check out the rest of the DT's fabulous work.

This challenge couldn't have come at a better time for me as my sister had just asked me to make a good luck card for a colleague who is going to work in Beijing. The stamps I've used are Non-sequitor stamps from The Stamp Man. I've blended DI over the background and used the spritz and flick technique, then randomly stamped the fan all over it. I've used the acrylic paint resist technique on the left hand panel. The main image has been stamped onto Speciality Stamping Paper, images do look alot crisper on this paper.

I've made the flower from lots of stamped fans, that have been stamped onto card that's had DI blended over it, then stuck together and shaped into the flower. I stamped the main image with white Brilliance ink onto black shrink plastic, this was more of an experiment really but worked really well ! The banner is printed on my PC.

I hope you get chance to join us for this challenge.
