Bah Humbug for Country View Crafts

Today I'm sharing my second post for Country View Crafts December challenge which is Bah humbug.

This is one of the Christmas cards I made before Christmas and I got to play with my new Ornate Frame die ! I started with the background and used a sponge with Caramel, Pumpkin Soup and Blood Orange Fresco Finish paints. I like the different finish the sponge gives as well as creating some texture on the card. I then randomly stamped the poinsettia stamp from the Tim Holtz Mini Holidays 5 stamp set. The next layer is a page from an old book that didn't have any text on it and I stamped it with an old PaperArtsy stamp and Sepia Archival ink and distressed the edges.

I stamped the main image, which is also from the same Tim Holtz set, and then painted him with Fresco Finish paints. The frame was die cut from card, then I painted it black with Little Black Dress Fresco Finish. When it was dry I then brushed it with Classic Treasure Gold. The sentiment is also from the same Tim Holtz set and I've die cut a poinsettia from shrink plastic using the Tattered Poinsettia die and painted the back with London Bus Fresco finish paint. The holly leaves are from the Lamp post die. Some dyed seam binding, thread and a button to finish !

I hope you're all enjoying your Christmas break and that Santa has been very kind to you !

Santa's coming to town !

Well we're almost there now and I've done all my present wrapping and card writing so time to relax ! We've actually sneaked away to a cottage in the middle of nowhere for the week so eating and drinking will be the main activity this week !

The card I'm sharing today is my eclectic Paperie DT piece, all of the details are over on the eP blog but here's a sneak peek.

It just leaves me to wish you all a very Happy Christmas ! I hope you all have a fabulous time whatever your plans are.

See you in 2014 !

Quick Christmas cards

I've been making some quick Chrismtas cards over the last week as I've been so totally disorganised, which isn't like me, but things just seem to have crept up on me this year ! So, I thought I'd share what I've been up to.

I made the background for this first card some weeks ago and then put it to one side while I finished off other projects and also thought about what I wanted to use it for. It's made with the TCW Snowflake stencil and Iced Spruce Distress Ink and a little Snowflake Fresco Finish paint. The foliage has been made using the Tattered Pine Cone die and the Festive Greenery die and I've dabbed the card with some more Snowflake FF.

The baubles have been die cut using a Memory Box die and I've used silver EP on the tops and bottoms of them. The sentiment is from the Tim Holtz Mini Holiday 4 set stamped with Cornflower Blue Archival ink. I've rubbed some embossing ink over 2 of the corners and sprinkled some white EP over them.

This card started off in the same way as the first one, time was of the essence so doubling up was key to my plan ! I stamped a panel of white card using a Katzelkraft snowflake stamp using second generation stamping. The die cut trim is made using a Tim Holtz strip die.The main image is also a Katzelkraft stamp and is stamped with Cornflower Blue Archival ink (definitely a favourite colour!)

I've blended Ice Spruce DI over the lamp post and then sprinkled silver EP over it. The foliage has been cut using the same dies as the first card. The numbers have been covered with embossing ink, then sticky embossing powder. I then dabbed Fresco Finish paint on them and heated the powder again, which sucks the paint in !

For this last card I used Sepia Archival ink first of all and stamped the baubles on the background. I then stamped the word Noel from an Indigo Blu stamp set using Red Geranium Archival ink, but did second generation stamping as I didn't want it too red.

The wreath is made using the Tim Holtz wreath die and the sentiment is from the Mini Holidays 4 set. I've added some Rock Candy Distress Glitter to the large bow. The garland  bows have been painted with a Distress marker and layered on to some crocheted lace.

I'm just about there now with cards, which is a relief, just need to finish my present shopping and then do some wrapping !

Hope all your Christmas plans are going well !

Tags and thank yous !

Time is certainly slipping through my fingers at the moment, and to think that there is less than 4 weeks to the big day is a very scary thought !

Today I'm sharing my project for the Funkie side of the Frilly and Funkie team. The lovely Cec has chosen Gift Tags and Note Cards.

I decided to make one of each !

For the tag I stencilled some snowflakes and then used the swirl from the Reindeer Flight stamp set and used Cornflower Blue Archival ink. I then stamped the trees from the same set with the same ink and stamped again without re-inking. I used the snowflake strip die and stamped the swirl onto the card before folding it up. I then dabbed Fresco Finish paint onto a Filigree snowflake and added it to the top. The sentiment is from the Mini Holidays set and I've stamped it with Cornflower Blue and cut it out.

For the card I started with the background and stamped the Fabulous Flourish stamp with embossing ink and then heat embossed it with white EP. I then used Weathered Wood and Broken China Distress paints over the top. The window is made using the Tim Holtz window die and I've painted it with Fresco Finish paint, added a coat of Crackle Glaze and then a top coat. The image in the window is from the Artistic Outpost A Lovely Day stamp set.

The main image is also from the same Artistic Outpost set and I've painted her with Distress Markers. The sentiment is from the Tim Holtz Simple Sayings set. To finish I've added some buttons and some paper flowers that I've rubbed Distress Ink over.

I hope you get chance to join us for this challenge and do make sure you hop over to the main blog and check out the rest of the DT's fabulous projects.

What a week end !

As promised I'm back today to share the projects that I made over the week end at the Finnabair workshops arranged by the lovely Sharon and Jamie of The Artist Trading Post. It was a full on week end and we worked at quite a pace, but I absolutely loved every minute of it ! Big thank you to Sharon and Jamie for keeping us all fed, watered and looked after so well.

Satuday morning was all about the cover of the Finnabair journal we all had in our class packs. Adding texture and then all the gorgeous Finnabair embellishments and paint.

We did the same to the back cover too. Absolutely loved this !

The afternoon  was concentrated on creating some pages for the journal. I used photos of me, but there were some absolutely gorgeous vintage family photos that were being used. Again we created texture, added embellishments and lots of spraying !

These canvas resist flowers are gorgeous ! I didn't get chance to buy any over the week end but I will certainly be buying some in the near future !

Sunday morning was all about looking from the dark into the light, I loved this concept. We created texture with strips of canvas and ribbon, added lots of embellishments and then lots of paint !

The last project of the week end was a canvas that we flipped over and used the back of. Again we created texture with strips of fabric and lace and kitchen roll ! The rocking horse was die cut from cardboard and we added lots of embellishments, mica powder and paint. The colours don't really show up too well on the photos as the paints we used were really vibrant.

And here is the main lady herself, demonstrating how it should be done !

A fabulous week end and I have some fabulous projects to remind me of it. If you get the chance to take a Finnabair class I would thoroughly recommend you take it !

Bah Humbug !

First of all an apology as I'm late with this post. I should have had it ready for this morning but as I've been at the fabulous Finnabair workshop all week end (more about that later this week) it clean slipped my mind !

So, this is my DT piece for the new challenge at Country View Crafts which starts today and the theme is Bah humbug. Your project can be vintage (eg Dickensian) or contemporary, celebratory or cynical, make what you will, but we must be able to see something connected to Christmas.

I love the traditional side of Christmas so decided this was the way I would go. The frame is a papermache one that I picked up from a local garden centre. I've painted it black with Little Black Dress Fresco Finish paint and then gave it a top coat of Fresco Finish Old Gold. I used some Wendy Vecchi black embossing paste through a snowflake stencil and stencilled some snowflakes onto the frame.

The background of the inside was made using Forest Moss and Bundled Sage Distress Inks smooshed onto my craft sheet and spritzed with water. I then pressed some white card into the ink, then I used the TCW snowflake stencil with Snowflake Fresco Finish. The santa from the Tim Holtz Mini Holidays set has been stamped onto tissue paper then I've painted him on the back using Fresco Finish paints. The frame has been made from cardboard using the Tim Holtz arch die. I've painted it with Holly FF and then added a coat of Crackle Glaze then a coat of Honey Dew FF. The holly and berries are from the lamp post die and I've used DI then dabbed embossing ink onto them and sprinkled sticky powder over the top. Once this has been heated I then sprinkled Rock Candy Distress Glitter over the top. The lamp post is also made from cardboard and cut using the Tim Holtz die. I've then dabbed embossing ink over it and sprinkled it with a mixture of Copper and Gold EP.

The poinsettias have been made from metal and cut using the Tim Holtz die. I then used an EF to emboss the metal and then used alcohol inks. The red was a little too bright so I brushed some FF Old Gold over the top. The greenery is cut using the Tattered Pinecone die and I've blended a little DI over it.

I've never found the Tattered Pinecone die that easy to use, but not to be beaten I tried it again and this time they turned out not too bad ! I made three of them and used a hot glue gun to stick them to the frame. To finish I brushed some classic Treasure Gold over the pinecones and the black embossed snowflakes on the frame.

I hope you get chance to join us for this challenge and do make sure you hop over to the Country View Crafts blog to check out the rest of the DT's fabulous work.

I shall be back later this week with the details from this week end.....totally amazing !
