Neglected dies !

Today I'm sharing a project for the current Frilly and Funkie challenge which is to use a neglected die. Now, Mr Mojo has been absent of late so when I attended Lin Brown's class on Saturday I decided to make another project similar to the one we made then in the hopes that he would make an appearance !

I've used my Cabinet dies for this project, I think I've only had them out of the packet once before now, so they really have been very neglected ! I shall be back on Saturday with a more in depth description of how this book was made so for now I'm just going to show some photos and a quick description. All of the pages have been die cut from greyboard so they are really thick and will take alot of punishment ! The front cover has had Wendy Vecchi's new Crackle Texture Paste spread over it and I've coloured it with Archival inks.

I've used various Wendy Vecchi stamp sets and used stencils to create interest on each of the pages.

I've used the smaller cabinet die to create the smaller page and the little girl you can see here is from an Artistic Outpost set.

More stencilling and stamping and I've cut the flower out on the right hand page.

I've stamped with white acrylic paint to use as a resist.

Here's how the book looks complete after I've used twine to attach the pages together.

I hope you get chance to join us for this challenge and do make sure you hop over to the main blog and check out the rest of the DT's fabulous projects.

Paper Chase no.2 !

I'm sharing my second DT project for the current Country View Crafts challenge which is Paper Chase, celebrating the challenge blog's first anniversary !

As paper is the main theme I decided to use Speciality Stamping Paper as the base for my card. I also wanted to have a dabble with the Wendy Vecchi technique of rubbing alcohol and re-inkers. For the background I used Hydrangea, Orange Blossom and Cornflower Blue re-inkers and sprinkled rubbing alcohol over the ink and let it run ! I then started to stencil using Lin Brown's new stencils and some Fresco Finish paints.

I had a piece of the backround left over so I stamped one of the flowers and the stem from the new Dylusions Fancy Florals set. I then painted them with Fresco Finish paints. I've used a layer of Tissue Wrap beneath the main image.

The butterfly is made from Grunge Paper that's been covered with some paper from an old book. I rubbed some Distress Ink around the edge and added a rusty safety pin to the centre. I've used brads to attach the ribbon on either side of the flower. To finish some buttons from my stash.

There's still plenty of time to join in with this challenge and for more inpsiration hop over to the main blog

This month’s challenge is Alter a Book !

This is one of my journalling books and I've been meaning to do something with the cover for ages, so this was the perfect opportunity ! I started by sanding the cover to remove the top surface and give the cover some tooth.

I then gave the cover a coat of Gesso, let it dry and then gave it another coat.

I then used the Wendy Vecchi 3 Flourishes stencil with Wendy Vecchi white embossing paste and also one of the new Lin Brown stencils. The letters are Tim Holtz grunge board letters.

I added some embellishments to a couple of the letters and then I painted everything with Stone Fresco Finish paint. Then I started to build up layers of paint, starting with Taupe Fresco Finish paint and using a baby wipe and a circular motion.

I used a brush to get the paint into the dips and around the edges of the letters, blending the paint with a baby wipe.

My thought for this cover was to re-create an old leather bound book, so to warm the colours up I used Brown Shed Freso Finish paint, again using a brush to get in to the detail and then blending the paint with a baby wipe.

This is the reverse of the book, and I've used a Lin Brown stencil for the leaves with Wendy Vecchi's embossing paste and added more texture by patting the paste with a spatula.

The final two colours of Fresco Finish paint are Chocolate Pudding and French Roast. French Roast really adds the depth and I concetrated it around the letters and stencilling.

I coated the whole thing with Satin Glaze to give a subtle sheen which I felt would really give it the feel of leather.

To finish I added a filigree metal piece to the spine, I wanted to keep the embellishments to a minimum as this is a book I will use often so didn't want to risk knocking them off !

I totally loved making this project and love how it's turned out. Make sure you join the hop and check out the rest of the DT's fabulous projects !

PaperArtsy Secret Garden

I'm back with  my second post for today, just a short one this time to share a sneak peek of my PaperArtsy project for this month.

I've been playing with the new stencils, paints and stamps but for all the details you'll need to hop over here.

Authentic Always !

Today I'm sharing my DT project for the Funkie side of the Frilly and Funkie team. I'm hosting the current challenge and I chose the theme of Stencils and Texture, I love making projects with lots of stencils and texture !

I decided I would do a journal page and started by covering some card with a piece of Tissue Wrap. While the glue was still wet I scrunched it up to create lots of ripples and texture.

I then dabbed Distress Paints over it and spritzed it really well with water and let the paint run. When it was dry I then stencilled using the Wendy Vecchi Dots and Stripes stencil and a Prima stencil.

I used Wendy Vecchi's black Embossing paste and the TCW Art Is stencil for the text. When the paste was dry I re-positioned the stencil and brushed some Classic Treasure Gold over it.

I used the same technique for the word Authentic and Always. The key has been painted with Fresco Finish paint as have the other metal embellishments.

The hearts have been die cut from Grunge Paper that I've stuck book paper on to. I've hand drawn the black lines and then blended DI around the edge.

I hope you get chance to join us for this challenge and do make sure you hope over to the main blog and check out the rest of the DT's fabulous projects.

Paper Chase !

Hello ! Today I'm sharing my first DT piece of the month for Country View Crafts. The challenge blog has just reached it's first year anniversary and in true anniversary style the theme for this month is Paper Chase. So, as long as your project has a strong theme of paper anything goes !

When I first thought about this challenge I was scratching my head as I didn't think I used alot of paper in my projects, how wrong could I be ! I started by glueing a piece of the new PaperArtsy Chatsworth paper to some white card and I then stencilled it using one of the new Lin Brown stencils using Snowflake Fresco Finish paint. When that was dry I gave the whole thing a wash of South Pacific Fresco Finish paint. As it's translucent you can not only see the stencilling but also the pattern on the paper.

The main image is a Flonz stamp and I've masked her off and then used PaperArtsy Mini 44 to add the script. This has been layered onto some card that's been stamped with one of the new Lynne Perella stamps and I've blended DI around it. The bottom layer is a page from an old book.

The leaves have been die cut using the Tim Holtz Spring Greenery strip die from more book pages. The roses are made using the PaperArtsy Grunge Flower die, again from book pages and I've rubbed some DI over them.

You may have noticed a certain number framed by the buckle, this card is for one of my sisters as it's her birthday this month. I think we'll just leave it at that !

I hope you get chance to join us for this challenge and do make sure you hop over to the main blog to check out the rest of the DT's fabulous projects.
